ASARECA to participate Africa Wide Agricultural Extension Week
The extension week, organized by the African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (AFAAS), in conjunction with Ministry of Agriculture, Ethiopia, is meant to re-invigorate agricultural extension services. The thinking behind this week-long event is to stimulate market-led agriculture for prosperity and improved livelihoods in Africa.
Some of the key issues to be discussed include policies and institutional arrangements and support systems; resourcing agricultural extension financing and investment; capacity development for enhancing resilience of livelihoods and production systems to risks; information communication technologies (ICTs) for knowledge management in agricultural extension. Among other issues, the event will explore sustainable options for improving effectiveness and efficiency of extension investments; and facilitate networking, information and knowledge exchange in agricultural extension.
Delegates are expected to chat out ways for enabling institutional environment for the effective delivery of agricultural extension for market led agriculture, and options for improving effectiveness of extension. Besides, they are expected to raise the profile of agricultural extension at continental level. ASARECA views this as an important event because agricultural extension, training and education are central to ASARECA’s Mission to promote economic growth, fight poverty, eradicate hunger and enhance sustainable use of resources in Eastern and Central Africa. ASARECA cherishes partnerships and regional collaboration among various stakeholder s as cornerstone in achieving meaningful livelihoods.
