What is the Regional Agricultural Information Network (RAIN) ?
 
What is RAIN?

RAIN, the Regional Agricultural Information Network, is a network of agricultural information organizations and professionals operating in 10 countries in eastern and central Africa (ECA)—Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The RAIN Vision

RAIN’s vision is to be dynamic and proactive. All RAIN activities grow from a belief that high-quality agricultural information is a prerequisite for economic growth.

The RAIN Mission

RAIN’s mission is to promote the provision and sustainable management of client-oriented agricultural information throughout the ECA region. Its particular emphasis is on strengthening regional capacities to access, generate, exchange, package, disseminate, and utilize this information to further economic growth.

The RAIN Goal

Increased economic growth and improved livelihoods in the ECA while enhancing the quality of the environment

Strategic Objective (purpose)

Enhanced contribution of information and communication to the improved sustainable productivity, value added and competitiveness of the regional agricultural system.

Governance

RAIN is hosted by the ASARECA secretariat, which provides its administrative support. The Coordination Unit consists of a coordinator, a programme assistant, a secretary, and an accounts clerk. The Coordination Unit is responsible for the day-to-day management of the network. The ASARECA Committee of Directors sets overall policy for RAIN and monitors performance. The Regional Steering Committee provides policy and technical guidance to the coordinator. It provides leadership in designing the programme portfolio that guides RAIN’s technical agenda.
