RAIN will facilitate and support 15 kinds of activity:
  1. Undertaking inventories of existing resources.
  2. Analysing training needs.
  3. Reviewing and developing training resources.
  4. Holding skill-enhancing courses for ICM professionals.
  5. Sensitizing policymakers and senior managers.
  6. Producing newsletters and journals.
  7. Managing ASARECA and RAIN Web sites.
  8. Promoting ASARECA and RAIN products and services.
  9. Facilitating the development and packaging of information.
  10. Initiating improved access to scientific and technical information (STI).
  11. Facilitating cooperative arrangements for information exchange.
  12. Determining information needs and products for different user groups (as a basis for developing national agricultural information strategies).
  13. Developing an ECA agricultural information strategy.
  14. Holding a region-wide study to explore the revenue-generation potentials of selected agricultural information products and services.
  15. Developing region-wide information technology (IT) and information and communication management (ICM) standards.
These activities will result in 15 corresponding types of output:
  1. Metadata of resources held at different institutions with links to the RAIN Web site.
  2. Identification of IT and ICM skills gaps.
  3. New training resources.
  4. Enhanced IT and ICM skills among agricultural information professionals.
  5. New commitments from policymakers and senior managers to further development of agricultural information.
  6. A newsletter (AgriForum) and other periodicals.
  7. Enhanced ASARECA and RAIN Web sites.
  8. Increased knowledge of ASARECA and RAIN products and services.
  9. Agricultural information products for targeted groups
  10. Programmes giving scientists improved access to STI.
  11. Memoranda of understanding and memoranda of agreement for joint acquisition of information and partnership with major players.
  12. National information strategies in each of the 10 eastern and central Africa (ECA) countries.
  13. A regional ECA agricultural information strategy that provides a basis for regional and national policymaking.
  14. Marketing plans for selected information products and services.
  15. Guidelines on IT and ICM standards.
