Staple CropsWelcomeThe Staple Crops Programme of ASARECA is implementing research that enhances production and utilization of Cassava, Banana, Sorghum, Millets, Rice, Wheat, Maize and Potato in the region. To do this, the Programme develops, mobilizes Research and Development teams to work together to develop and implement projects. This has enhanced generation and utilization of innovations of staple crops. There is also teamwork, networking, sharing research facilities, technical knowledge and information, experiences and lessons between and amongst countries and institutions for better management and combating pests and diseases affecting the staple crops in the region. Currently, the Programe is facilitating the implementation of 17 projects for the crops listed above in all the ASARECA countries according to priorities identified in its Strategic Plan (2008-2014).
