Dr. Hussein Abubakr elected ASARECA new Board Chairman

Dr. Hussein Abubakr has been elected as the new Chairman Board of Directors for ASARECA. Abubakr is the Director General of Agriculture Research Council (ARC) Sudan and holds a PhD in Business and Development Economics.

He has experience in training and teaching and is currently a Professor and staff Member of the Development Studies and Research Institute (DSRI), University of Khartoum. He has also been engaged in a number of consultancies within the region and internationally in areas of rural finance and microfinance, value chain analysis and marketing, among others. He has experience in working on projects funded by the World Bank, IFAD and FAO.

Dr. Abubakr takes over from Dr. Ambrose Agona, who until May 2 was the Board Chairman. Dr. Agona, the Director General National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), is reputed for navigating ASARECA through a transition period that saw the institution revisit its strategic focus and reformed its governance structure.

Dr. Abubakr takes over at a time ASARECA is seeking full legitimacy from its Constituent Governments in Eastern and Central Africa.
