ASARECA, Nile Basin Discourse forge partnership on Water and Agriculture

ASARECA Executive Director, Dr. Enock Warinda on 18 January 2024 held discussions with the Nile Basin Discourse Regional Manager, Eng . Sylvester Anthony Matemu at ASARECA secretariat offices in Entebbe, Uganda.

The meeting focused on building Partnership between ASARECA and Nile Basin Discourse for Joint resource mobilization and collaboration to make available proven agricultural and water management technologies to farmers to transform Agriculture and improve livelihoods.

The Nile Basin Discourse is a network of Civil Society organizations established in 2003 with the support of Nile Basin countries, the World Bank, and other development partners to strengthen civil society participation in Nile Basin development processes, projects, programs, and policies.

Its member organizations are local and national NGOs working on a range of issues relevant to Nile cooperation, including environmental conservation, agriculture, energy, gender equity, livelihoods, poverty reduction and others.

The two organizations agreed to establish technical teams that will explore areas of engagement and collaboration to develop a Memorandum of Understanding to affirm areas for collaboration.

Nearly all Nile Basin countries are ASARECA Member States.
