Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock, Republic of Burundi
Hon. Prof. Sanctus Niragira is the Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock for the Republic of Burundi. He holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics and a Master’s degree in Nutrition and Management from Ghent University. Besides his ministerial duties, he continues to lecture at the University of Burundi as an Associate Professor. An elaborate academic and researcher, Prof. Niwagira has a number of peer reviewed publications to his name either as a lead author or a co-author. These include: Modelling crop portfolios that minimize human macronutrient deficiency on subsistence farms in Burundi; Farmers’ Perception of Coffee Agroforestry Systems in an Area Targeted for Organic Certification in Burundi; Historical changes in the traditional agrarian systems of Burundi: endogenous drive to survive from food insecurity; and Farm Size and Productivity Nexus Farmers’ Welfare in Burundi among others.
